Vienna is amazing, seriously. I have fallen in love with Vienna. The heat could be a little less intense but it is not stopping me from experiencing Vienna. One of the first things we did in Vienna was to get the Vienna Pass so that we could visit all of the attractions in Vienna and use the Hop On Hop Off tour to get around. The price was pretty decent and it lets you skip lines (the most important feature). The first place we went to was the Schomburg Palace. The Schomburg Palace is the former imperial summer home. It has nearly 1200 rooms but only 40 of thsoe rooms are available to the public. We had tickets for the Grand Tour but we didn't end up finishing all of the rooms. The regular tour is honestly enough - the rest of the rooms are furniture and silverware. The gardens are also beautiful. The palace gives a snapshot into the life of Maria Theresa and Franz Joseph. The palace was easy to get to with the hop on/hop off and so it was worth a peak around. If the day wasn't so hot the gardens would have been lovely to stay in for a longer period of time. Next we went to the Vienna Ferris Wheel.
This old ferris wheel, located next to a newer model, features cable train like cars which go around. This was free with the Vienna Card as well. It was evening but still very hot so it was nice to get up high where there is a slight breeze. Once you get your ticket you get onto the car with quite a few other people. The car can comfortably fit a lot of people in them. Once you are on you get one go around per ticket. One go around is plenty. It takes maybe around 10 minutes to complete the circle. At the top you get a good look at the skyline of Vienna. We did it at sunset and it was beautiful to look at. There is also a picture of the skyline at the top of the windows in the car which point out the different major sights to you. It was a nice orientation to the city. The first day was a nice orientation to the city! Did I mention that I love Vienna?
